Ess-schale
A soldier’s bowl carried by every ghetto resident at all times, used for collecting and eating one’s daily “soup”; it was also convenient as a regular soup pot. The term refers to Austrian military slang, where Menage was commonly used in reference to provisions. Menaschkas came in a broad variety of designs, however the kidney- shaped German ones from the Reich became most widespread, especially when Metalwork Department II commenced their production.
