[Swill soup]
A thin, watery soup (mostly distributed by labor divisions) with several small pieces of potatoes and a handful of noodles, more suitable for drinking than for eating with a spoon.
CHL[I]APUS [Swill soup]
The general name of soups distributed by kitchens. The name probably derives from the Polish word “chlapać” – “pour, spill, splash.”
[The word] “chliapus” is a reference to the watery thinness of the division – subsidized soup, suitable only for pouring out.
Usage: “You don’t need a sponge for today’s chliapus”; “Wait, I'll just drink my chliapus”; “How much for a chliapus today?”
